Tried to catch the sunset
camera poised on the back step
but the eye sees so much better
and the vibrant pinks, oranges and golds
fade into nothing
the digital replication
comes out empty
colorless
unreal

Hey Read,
Thanks for the brief missive.
Glad to hear you made it over to the Blackfoot--one of my favorite rivers. When in grad school in Missoula, my summer job was to shuttle cars along its banks for the fishermen/rafters.
Had my best fishing outing yet the other day at Chalk Creek, just up the road from Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. I caught brookies while my friend caught rainbows.
The summer had been great since we've been more mobile now that Niko is older. The trip to California, another to Crested Butte and a short stay in Winter Park have made the heat of this past July bearable (twenty six of thirty one days above ninety degrees).
The heat has its upsides, though. My cucumbers are producing faster. I've canned two batches of pickles and will do my third tonight.
When you get back, I'll give you a jar for late night snacking.
Any new fish/fishing poems?
When do you head back?
I'm less than two weeks from stepping back into the hallowed halls of Arapahoe.
Look forward to reading the next poem!
